Time together, without pressure

Family photography in Leeds

For families who don’t love being photographed, but want an experience that’s genuinely enjoyable - with photos they’ll love for years.

Family photography can be a really good day.

You don’t need to know what to do, where to stand, or how to behave. You can simply be yourselves and enjoy being together.

This is photography for families in Leeds and across Yorkshire who want time together to feel easy and natural - and to come away with photographs that feel and look like them on a great day.

Family photography that feels easy and natural

If the idea of a family photo session makes you feel a bit uneasy, you’re not alone.

Most families I work with worry that:
- They won’t look “natural”
- They’ll feel self-conscious in front of the camera
- Their partner or children won’t enjoy it

Often, it’s because their only experience of being photographed has been rushed snapshots, awkward instructions, or being told to “pretend to laugh”.

This works very differently.

Here, there’s no pressure to perform or get anything “right”. The focus is on creating a relaxed space where you can settle in, connect, and enjoy being together.

A people-first approach to family photography

The best family photographs come from people feeling comfortable enough to be themselves, not perfect behaviour or forced smiles.

With over 20 years of experience photographing families in Leeds and across Yorkshire, I’ve learned how to gently guide without controlling, adapt to different personalities, and meet people where they are - whether that’s a hesitant parent, a quiet child, or a family full of energy.

I create the conditions for real moments to unfold:
- Subtle guidance when it’s helpful
- Space to move, talk, and interact naturally
- An approach that adjusts to your family, not the other way around

The result is an experience that feels easy and unforced - and photographs that reflect your connection, warmth, and sense of fun.

After the session, we’ll arrange a time to look through the images together - either in person or online.

You’ll be guided through your gallery and supported in choosing the photographs you love most. If you’d like help turning them into an album or framed pieces, I can design those with you, using beautifully made, long-lasting products. There’s no pressure either way.

The aim is for you to come away with photographs that feel meaningful - images you’ll enjoy now, and value even more over time.

After your session

On the day itself, things are kept relaxed and unhurried.

There’s no need to perform or manage anyone’s behaviour. I’ll offer gentle guidance where it helps, and plenty of space where it doesn’t. We’ll move, talk, wander, and pause as needed - adjusting to energy levels, moods, and personalities as we go.

Most families are surprised by how quickly it stops feeling like a photo session at all. It often feels more like time together, with someone quietly taking care of the photographs.

During your session

Before anything is booked or planned, we’ll talk.

You’ll be able to tell me a bit about your family - what you’re like together, what you enjoy doing, and how everyone feels about being photographed. From there, I’ll guide you on things like location and what to wear, in a way that feels supportive rather than prescriptive.

There are no rules and no “right” choices. The aim is to help you feel comfortable, prepared, and confident before the day arrives.

What it’s like to work together

Who this kind of family photography is for

 It's for you if . . .

You don’t need to be confident in front of the camera, and you don’t need your family to behave in any particular way. What matters most is being open to the process and trusting that you’ll be looked after throughout.

This approach suits families who are looking for something considered and personal - and who want photographs that will continue to mean more as time goes on.

You value quality, care, and longevity over quick or formulaic sessions

You want photographs that feel like your family, rather than a set of poses

You’re open to slowing down and enjoying the time together

If you’d like help turning your photographs into something tangible, I offer beautifully made albums, archival-quality prints, and framed pieces.

These are produced by an experienced art framer and an artisan album maker, chosen for their quality and longevity. There’s no obligation to purchase - it’s simply an option if you’d like something thoughtfully made to live with your photographs.

- Preparation and guidance beforehand
- A viewing appointment (in person or online)

Family photography sessions are an investment - in time together now, and in photographs you’ll return to for years.

Session Fee

Family photography sessions are £95,
payable before the session.

I work with a limited number of families so that each session can be approached with care and attention.

This allows the experience to feel personal and ensures that the photographs you receive are created thoughtfully, not at volume.

A note on value

You’ll see your photographs in a calm, supportive setting, with time to take everything in.

If you’d like help choosing images, designing an album, or creating framed pieces, I’ll guide you through that. If not, that’s absolutely fine too.

The experience is designed to feel considered and respectful, from start to finish.

There’s no pressure to buy more

Children don’t need to perform. Teenagers don’t need to suddenly love having their photo taken. Adults don’t need to feel confident or polished.

We work with what’s there on the day - high energy, quiet moments, playfulness, pauses - and that’s more than enough.

Your family doesn’t need to be a certain way

You don’t need to know how to stand, where to look, or what to do with your hands. That’s not your job.

My role is to guide you gently and adapt as we go, so you can relax into the time together without worrying about how you’re coming across.

You don’t need to be good at this

A few reassurances

"I overheard R, after his friend asked if it was embarrassing doing a photo shoot, saying ‘No, it’s alright, the guy that does it is nice’ – the highest praise from a 16-year-old!!!"

What Families Say

Getting in touch

There’s no obligation - just a friendly conversation.

If this feels like the right fit for your family, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

You can use the contact form to tell me a little about yourselves - who you are, where you’re based, and what you’re hoping for. I’m based near Bingley and work with families across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire area.
From there, I’ll be in touch to talk things through and answer any questions you might have.

There’s no obligation at this stage. Just a conversation to see whether working together feels right.

Family Photography FAQs

I want you to feel like yourselves. Planning clothing takes a little thought, and I’ll guide you so it feels natural and comfortable. Muted tones and neutrals, with a mix of textures and layers, usually work beautifully. We’ll discuss this during your planning call, and you can read my clothing guide for outdoor sessions beforehand if you wish.

What if my children don’t behave as expected?

Sessions within 25 miles of Bingley, West Yorkshire, are included. Popular spots include Harrogate, Ilkley, Wakefield, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. I’m happy to suggest favourite places or explore locations that are meaningful to your family.

What if the weather isn’t good on the day?

Perfect behaviour is never expected. My sessions are relaxed, playful, and adapt to your children’s energy and needs. Breaks are built in, and every family leaves with a beautiful gallery of images, regardless of any initial worries.

What should we wear?

I don’t want your session to be dampened by bad weather. Yorkshire’s weather can be unpredictable, so we will be in close contact about the forecast the day before.

Where do outdoor portrait sessions take place?
